Buyers Assistance

Update on Delays:

Hi everyone, I hate to do this but with things as they are right now traffic and comments are up to crazy levels, I’ve had something like 50 people reaching out in just the last few days, it’s great to see but you are asking me comments as fast as I can answer them. I’m going to have to suspend my normal free advice and replies, there is at least a 5-10 day delay on normal responses, 12-24 hours on paid I’ve been doing this for you guys for 2 years now and this is the biggest rush I’ve seen. I’ll still be answering priority assistance comments and working with customers who go for my personal buyers services. This is not a cash grab but I only have so many hours in a day and I’m already spending all of them here. I’m looking for a suitable co-author to help with the free comments and will change this post when I start getting caught up.

Thanks for all the hot tub enthusiasm!

I’ve been in this industry for so long and seen so many crazy things. After talking with so many people who buy the wrong tub or pay too much for a one I started HTU to help as many as I can avoid this. I spend tons of hours each week answering these and I’ve personally helped thousands in the last few years to get great deals on tubs that leave them satisfied and taken care of.

I work for you guys and I’ll keep tearing down the spin and bad marketing out there as well as showing you which companies are playing it straight, taking care of their customers and building to last. If HTU has helped in your hunt give us a tip to help keep the content and coffee flowing, visit our funding page. I also have our Terms page and Financial page for transparency

Whether you just want advice on what to buy and where to buy it in your area or if you want me to hook you up with a super star dealer nearby, this is the place to be! Don’t worry if you don’t see your submission at first, it won’t appear until I reply.

Whichever route you want to go, fill out the comment form below and I’ll get on it!

I’ve been doing this off donations for the past two years and I want to express my thanks for everyone who has made this possible.

As the number of requests has continued to rise this has become more difficult to keep on top of so I decided to try out a bit of a priority system.

Hey Chris, attempting to do my homework but there doesn’t seem to a lot of 3rd party info out there. Anyway, I’m looking at 3 tubs. Master Spa Twilight 7.25 @10k; Coast Apex Bench Curve @ 8k; and Bull Frog A8,did not get a quote yet. I’m looking for a quick pro / con for ea. And your est price for each. And of course your pick of the litter. Thanks JS

Hi Chris,

Thanks for your honesty and this website. I am really torn between the H2X challenger 15D and 18D. Any suggestions? I’m 5’11” and have family with 2 little ones. Also, got a price quote for h2x challenger 15D just under $40K CAD total (taxes included). Is it worthwhile getting the buyer service? Thanks in advance.

Deciding between Artesian (dealer 40 minutes away) and Master Spa (dealer approximately 4 hours away). I like the Master Spa Twilight series but I don’t like that the dealer is so far away. Is it smarter to go with Artesian since the dealer is closer?

Paid for priority. I am living in rural Northern NY and am limited to PDC Spas but from your reviews that sounds like a good thing! We have never had a hot tub before and no very little. It will be for family fun mostly but also for some message relief for me. We have narrowed our choices down to the Premium series Freeport spa or the Lifestyle Series Mystic spa. The lifestyle only has one pump, that seems like the major difference I care about, am I missing anything? Also, is one 6hp pump enough? Should we just pay… Read more »

Thanks! Is it possible to spend less than $6k? I’ve read your reviews on the mass merchant options, so we don’t want to go that direction. The local dealer we went to was pushing Bullfrogs for $15k and up. Should we look at used? We are in the SF Bay Area, would your personal buyer service be beneficial here?

Priority Response Hi Chris – We have just started looking for a hot tub and wanted to get your view on the best brands, models, dealers and even price in our area (West Toronto / Mississauga) given what we’re looking for: Size: 7 seater? Use: We have a mall backyard and young kids so would want a ‘warm tub’ in summer and ‘hot tub’ in winter Water treatment: Would like a lower chemical option My Handiness: I’m not very handy, regular maintenance would be fine but looking for a good quality tub that will hold up over time with lower… Read more »

We put a refundable downpayment on a A9L Bullfrog that is the only one in stock right now, otherwise we wait until november. Trying to decide if its worth the sticker shock of $15,500. It has 7 jet packs and 9 seats. lifetime warranty on the shell and outside, 5 years on the three pumps. I get that the price might have to do with the size and number of seats. My only concern is will I regret not having the option to go to salt water later. So far most other stores in the area have wait times around… Read more »

HI Chris, just purchased the personal buyer service. I wrote a couple of weeks ago and you indicated you could help me and save money. We are previous owners of a Tiger River Spa which we no longer own and would like to buy a new Hot Tub for therapeutic reasons. Hi Chris, wow… What a site. Would be lost without it. Probably deciding between a coast and master spa but there is a small part of us considering one of the Dynasty Radiance spas. We actually like the layout of it more than the Coast or Master but after watching your 2015 video have concerns about quality. The dealer (who also sells Coast) is adamant that the issues you raised in 2015 have been addressed over the years. Do you have any updates thoughts on the Dynasty line? Good sense is still telling me to stick with Master or Coast… Read more »

I Hope all is well. I looked at thermospas today and I am just not sure. I am not sure how they are constructed and their service. I was wondering if you had any thoughts. Thank you

Reply to  Bob

Hi Bob, I would put Thermospas in with mass merchant groups, lots of tiny low flow jets that give you a good jet count but low performance, an insulation system I wouldn’t want anywhere near a cold winter and cradle supported shell which creates weak points. I’m not as sure about the service levels but some of that comes down to dealer and region.

You have a few good options near you including Artesian, Master and PDC dealers, if you want help with narrowing it down and negotiating check out my personal buyer service.

I am considering a brand called “Tropic Seas” — out of Las Vegas (or so they say). Do you have a rating / advice on that company? (in the meantime, I’m looking for the other brands you give a top score to — we used to have a Jacuzzi….it was ok.)

Hi Chris,
Planning to do the personal buyer service – do you have contacts in the SF Bay Area? I haven’t noticed that in scrolling through comments. Also probably don’t need for 3-4 months but sounds like there are long lead times so we should get started. Would need help figuring out what we want but assume you can help with that?

Thanks,

Sunrise spas in Grimsby Ontario. I have read they use quality materials with easy access to service. No spray foam insulation , galvanized metal frame, quality pump motors , skirt material. I was supprised to not see them on your list. Your take on this brand?

Hi Ed, they do use good parts but the biggest issue alongside the insulation is the cradle supported shell, it creates weak points over time.

The Twilight line is one of the best out there, similar built quality to the Artesian and both of those are better than the Jacuzzi.
The Twilight edges out the Artesian with higher performance, more of it’s jets are high flow therapy and the neck jetting on the Twilight is quite powerful.

I’m sure you would be happy with either though, both well built with good insulation and parts.

I just purchased the Personal Buyer plan. We are building a lake house and have planned for the hot tub/spa to be undermounted on the second floor outdoor deck overlooking the lake. It will be flush with the deck. The architect has allowed us to have an 84 x84 inch spa for 4-6 people. We want a spa for therapy as well as relaxation. There is approximately 20+ inches in the deck for a trap door for access to the panel. We have particular orientations for the seats, either looking at the lake or looking at the house. Hey Chris, AWESOME site. You’ve already become an invaluable resource for us, and we’re only a few weeks into researching our first tub. Like most probably, we started with the knowledge that you COULD get a hot tub from Costco or Wayfair for like $5000 and quickly learned why. We’ve walked our way up to REAL tubs and now know the difference between plastic/resin versus acrylic/fiberglass… and which brand are more gimmicky. We were really turned off by the goofy pods Bullfrog now uses, for example. Anyway, based on size (6-7 person… 84-90″) we had narrowed ourselves down to a… Read more »
